Alana of What—Makes produces unique plant-dyed garments and jewellery using natural botanical dyes she prepares herself using locally sourced plant material. The resulting pieces are genuine one-offs and carry the special properties of the plants used within them.
These earrings are made from up-cycled pine and recycled silver ~ the black dye is produced using either pomegranate (from Alana's mum's neighbour's tree) or Ironwood Eucalyptus bark from her own backyard.
The wood is sourced from Lionel, a member of a local Men's Shed group in the Adelaide Hills, who produces chopping boards from scrap timber ~ the resulting offcuts are shaped into these earrings.
